Position: Transport Monitoring Officer
Location: Hardshaw Brook Depot, Parr Street, WA9 1JR
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 5+ Months
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £ 14.82 per hour

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Organise and lead annual driving licence checks, MOT schedules, and regular vehicle inspections to meet legal safety standards.
Manage internal systems for tracking driver hours, fuel card usage, and health and safety rules.
Look for ways to upgrade transport management systems, including researching and introducing new software and technology.
Collect, analyse, and interpret transport data to create clear reports and operational schedules for frontline staff.
Provide the Contract Manager with accurate data and insights to help with budget control and long-term planning.
Work closely with other council departments, such as Waste & Recycling, Streetscene, and Civil Engineering, to ensure their transport needs are met efficiently.
Reconcile cash and card payments for MOT testing and other billable services.
Train and support colleagues on transport control systems and software.
Conduct annual performance reviews for direct reports, helping them set goals and identify training needs.
Follow all council policies regarding Health & Safety, Equality, Data Protection, and the Code of Conduct.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Experience working within a transport, logistics, or fleet management environment.
Proven experience collecting, analysing, and presenting statistical data, as well as maintaining and improving administrative or operational systems.
Experience supervising or managing staff, including conducting performance reviews, is highly desirable.
Strong understanding of transport compliance, including driver hours, MOT regulations, and vehicle inspection standards.
Excellent IT skills, with the ability to use specialized transport management software and standard office programs like Excel for data analysis.
Good financial awareness, with experience reconciling payments and working within budgetary guidelines.
Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical systems to non-technical staff.
Highly organized with great attention to detail, a problem-solving mindset, and a commitment to high standards of public service, equality, and data confidentiality.
